Mod. Madness!

After changing my idea several times, (ex: cups, bowls, lightbulbs, matches) I landed on paint tabs.

This is the result.

WASH : 2/3/11

Today we continued the idea of the dot projects, but using text. We chose a letter then created compostions of reflection, translation, and rotation. It is interesting, but I'm having problems with GIMP.

In 3D we continued our cardboard projects. My peanut is beginning to get its finial shape, and getting covored with peeled apart cardboard for texture.

Cardboard Peanut Project : Update.

Last thing I said about this project was that it was assigned, so here's what has been going on in the life of a giant peanut...

1. After giving little thought into this project, my first idea was to cut circular shapes out of card board until it stacked up to be a perfectly sculpted peanut - and I thought this would not take very long.

Turns out, this prosess takes a VERY long time considering the scale and level of detail I wanted to do.
I did not get very far before i 86'ed that idea...

My second time was a lot more thought out, and seems to be successful!
I began looking at the peanut noticing the obvious shapes it's made of; two circle/ovals with a corset like connector. - Next I looked at other people projects on the best way to make a circle. i found that the most effective way for me to do it was to cut out flow pettle shaped pieces, then bend them into each other to create a sphere.

After creating two identical shaped spheres, and using a cylender shape to hold them together, this is what I came up with:

And finially, at the end of the day, I had a structure resembling a peanut.!! :)

Photo Compositions

In this project I beilive the rules where to work backwards from our preivouse project, which was to get a new paper photo and make a dot composition. This time we were to take a photo of our own that represented a dot compositions that we already made. Also the photos had to be black and white, and could but didn't have to incude your self unless... I dont really know, the directions were more of a guildline as the day went on.

- Despite the confusion, this is what i cam up with:

WASH 1/25/11

Today we began two new projects.

1. In the moring 3D class we were given an object and (mine was a peanut) and told to make it out of card board on a much lager scale. Very little physical progress was made but plenty of brain storming. I assume this will be a much more complicated and time consuming project than I anticipated.

After lunch, during the 2D portion, we were given a similar project with the black squares, but they were circles. We had to have a random amount, randomly throw them onto a piece of white paper, then using a 5x5" view finder made from paper, select a part of the randomly thrown squares that showed the best composions. It was interesting to see what people chose to use and how they looked all together.

3D Newspaper Sculpture

My first class as a WASH student was a great experience. - We were given a problem, and a task to go along with that problem. We were asked to build a structure using only newspaper and glue that could support a cinder block. The obvious problem was that the cinder block was exptremly heavy.

How I went about this project. - I began to test the news paper on how thick it would be when I folded it how easly it would tear, and how much I had. after coming to the conclusion and spending very little time thinking outside the box, i began to fold the newspaper into thick strips and stack them like the block stacked in the game Jenga. Considering that we had two hours and thirty minutes to constuct our projects, i was confedent that i would be able to fold enough newspaper to at least get three or four foot tall. I soon realized that was not going to happen.

Although I did not get the four foot tower I had invisioned, the foot and a half foot tall stack of paper had developed a spring to it. As the project contined, my drive shifted from seeing how high i could lift the cinder block to how far I could launch it into the atmosphere.

When all was said and done, and the cinder block sat on my paper spring, I was at a solid 7 inches.

This was a fun project and I'm eager to see what other projects are ahead.
